In MCD's Creative Dance class, dancers will learn to move in a creative, freeing and graceful way in the contemporary dance style. Contemporary dance is a style of expressive dance that combines elements of several dance genres including modern, jazz, lyrical and classical ballet. This type of dance, and any dance in general, can have major benefits for young people's mental and physical well-being.
1) Allows Creative and Self-Expression
Contemporary dance allows those taking part to express themselves creatively through connecting fluid movements and transitions. It allows dancers to portray emotions and feelings through unique dance pieces, acting as a creative outlet.
2) Improves Fitness
Dance is great for improving strength, balance and coordination. It is also an aerobic exercise that helps improve heart and lung health for those participating. Contemporary dance transforms your posture and balance, therefore improving your overall fitness.
3) Provides Variety
The great thing about contemporary dance is that there is so much to explore. It gives dancers the opportunity to learn a variety of techniques from a variety of different forms, meaning they will always have something new to learn. Contemporary dance is perfect for children because it ensures they will not lose interest.
4) Provides Stress Reduction
When you dance, your body produces endorphins, which naturally combat stress. Contemporary dance can help you to feel calmer when participating and dancing allows you to focus on movements rather than the things worrying you. Also, because contemporary is such an expressive style, it can reduce stress as it allows you to express these negative feelings and emotions through dance.
5) Improves General Health
As mentioned previously, dance can have an amazing impact on someone's overall health as it benefits the body both physically and mentally.
